Okay I am interested in your feedback.  I am in the process of updating my stereo system. And so the whole digital thing dawned on me, much easier to load everything up digitlally on one player than hunt for Cds, etc.  In this process I am trying to decide on a player and music source.  Iam familiar with iTunes and have used it.  And so I tried http://www.music.msn.com, gee no wonder this company is going nowhere. With Apple setting the pace you would think msn would at least equal Apple,  while I am writing this msn.music cannot even seem to get a page loaded to describe an album.  Has anyone else encountered this problem?  Apparenlty Jobs set up iTunes to just work with iPods as other devices like archos 604  which boasts a much larger screen do not work with iTunes.  But I must say I am not impressed with msn music and one cannot even examine rhapsody’s site without joining and it costs whether you buy the music or not, though I admit you can play all you want for 15 bucks which is not a bad deal.

Your thoughts on all this?

    Dr. Elam,
    Yes! iTunes is the best! Yes, you are right…one can only use it in conjuction with the iPod. There is a music streaming website called Limewire. It works well. You can download movies and music. I personally use Boxden.com, but if you were not a member before 2003, you will be charged fees. I hoped I was able to help! Do you have a MP3 player?

    I use iTunes for recording music I like to hear and load it to my cell phone (Motorola). I, too, use Limewire to download music or movies/videos. When I’m at the computer I listen to Yahoo Music launchcast. With this website you can create your own “station.” Good luck!

    I personally would choose an ipod. Right now with the “edge” that Apple has on the MP3 market right now its a good deal. Correct, I tunes ONLY works with an ipod because of its music format, but Itunes conveniently plays both MP3 and MP4 (a format by Apple). I believe as Apple becomes more innovative with its digital media, you will encounter more user-friendly designs of its software and devices. Now, with me being a full-time musician (outside of school), I would STRONGLY suggest that you not download music from the “Limewire” site/software for free, mainly because thats “stealing”. I won’t go that into detail as we all know about the Napster controversy! Apple, amongst other sources, do offer music that you pay for. The cool thing about that is you pay less for the music if you download the cd from the site. (You don’t have the extra costs of the cd jewel case, covers etc.) Just pick your prize carefully! Good luck.

    I do not have a MP3 player yet, I saw today that apple has sold 60 M iPods, now wonder the stock is up, I am still amazed the msft music site did not even work, I also read it will be late this year or probably next before Apple gets its real iVideo to market
    Bryan is quite correct about intellectural property, please pay for what others have done.

    Dr. Elam;
    I used to listen to talk radio all the time while when I was driving until I purchased an i-pod; now I listen to music half of the time. You are right, it is better than CD’s. In between many reasons is that with an i-pod a have a choice from hundreds of songs without carrying all those cds. The neat thing is that you can connect your i-pod to your car or home stereo as well. For what is pricing for music in the internet it is still much cheaper than purchasing cds. There is a reason why i-pod controls 80% of the market, not ony because is cool, but because is a great product. By the way, they have gone down in price $50 bucks.

    I have written a good deal about the importance of design. Everyone I have visited with marvels at the clever intuitive wheel control that is central to the design of the iPod. If you had been on the design team, would you have thought of that? Such out of the box thinking about practicality and elegance at the same time is the hallmark of good design. So it is no wonder that Apple has now sold 60 M iPods, how many iTunes do you suppose that has sold? Not to mention the gigantic aftermarket, my new Yamaha receiver has a Yamaha designed dock just for the iPod. This is also why in another post I note NBC is cutting back, fewer listeners to their offerings. How will networks compete when you have your choice of listening to music or a downloaded tv show when you want or the increasingly popular pod casts?
