Wesley_snipesWesley Snipes is usually seen in movies hunting the bad guys. Well the hunter has become the hunted, by the IRS no less.   It seems Wesley hired a group associated with filing fraudlent returns.  The scam is to file a return claiming losses to obtain refunds of previously paid taxes.  The IRS does not take such foolishness lightly. The IRS particularly enjoys making a public spectacle out of famous people like Leona Helmsley  and Red Foxx  and even Willie Nelson .  Sophia Loren served time in jail in Naples Italy  for tax evasion, so we can conclude foreign revenue services can’t take a joke either.

The need for ethics in handling tax returns is high, the penalties for failing to do so are high too.

It’s not nice to fool Mother Nature, or the IRS.

I do not understand why people blatantly, outright lie on their taxes. Ok…everyone may fudge the numbers a little, but to just make up numbers and write-off nonexistent losses is just ludicrous! I especially do not have any sympathy for entertainers, they make more money in a year than most people make in a lifetime. Therefore, I feel that if Wesley Snipes is found guilty, he should serve the complete sentence.

Good points all Chevy, and indeed Wesley makes more than most of us do in ten years by making a single movie. I don’t know how a person of his intellect could be taken in by this sort of ‘shaggy dog’ story. In the past celebrities like Abbott and Costello got in trouble through bad managers, ditto for Willie Nelson, this is why Mark McCormack had such success as an agent for personalities. Get a good CPA, and let them handle the money side of it.

I have to agree with you all on this topic I think celebrities get away with way too much. As much as I like Wesley Snipes he deserves to pay for his tax fraud. This behavior is also seen in the corporate world with the top CEOs who are already making top dollar decide to try to cheat the system to earn more money. I understand that greed can get a hold of people but sometimes you just have to know when to quit.
