Another good article in the Points Section of the Sunday DMN 2/11/07. Indeed, Clinton and Bush have both suggesed that the fact that employees do not pay taxes on health care benefits makes it unfair to those that have to buy their own insurance. I will also place this article on reserve, lots of good stuff and costs and realizing who pays for what.

What do you think of a national healthcare system? Give me the pros and cons….I am interested in feedback of how it will affect for instance:
1. The healthcare industry (drugs in particular)
2. Costs of medical treatment
3. The never-ending lawsuits that control the rising costs of healthcare insurance
I have heard some very negative things about the system they use in the UK. Any feedback?LikeLike

Better yet, read what Walter Williams has to say about it here
in his column this week. The problem is not that people here go without health care, the problem is that they choose not to buy any and the folks that have health insurance has so much of it that they are detached from what it costs. Indeed a recen study that was highlighted in B/W showed that insurance itself drives up the cost. As you say, lawsuits result in doctors ordering more tests and the tests are ordered when the insurance will pay for it. Home owner and car insurance is not out of control. Other products have gone down in price. The lack of a buyer using his or her own money to make decision has taken the pricing decision out of the hands of the consumer. We have the best health care system in the world. Every oil sheik comes here for his heart surgery. IRA type health care packages are proving to be a way to handle this. And if the govt were in charge, who would you complain to, there would not be an alternative. Imagine the VA combined with the IRS, that’s national health care.
