Fair_tax Go to the Fair Tax Website. One student asked how a national sales tax would affect lower income folks. The answer is that there is a threshold before the tax applies to anyone so that the necessities of life so to speak would be tax free.  The government would rebate those amounts up to a level to individuals, I don’t care for any more govt involvement and don’t like that way to solve the problem as it would just allow some congressman to insert himself into some vote buying scheme.

The Fair Tax was proposed by Congressman John Linder Georgia and talk show host Neal Boortz (www.boortz.com).  The idea is to eliminate the IRS, the tax forms, the odious compilation requirements, and the worthless work that produces not goods or services but consumes lots of money and time.  A sales tax does that.

Now, I would propose one more addition to a national sales tax but give credit to the originator of the idea-Dr. Tom Sowell.  Limit the Federal Budget to 10% of the Gross Domestic Product.  That would at least put a limit on govt spending that tied to the amount of goods and serivces available to tax. Otherwise there is no limit the the amount the Feds will attempt to extract from the economy.  Bush’s comment that no one should have to pay more than 35% income tax raises the question, for what George?

I think that the key here is limit the federal government on spending. That always seems to be an issue and it never seems to go away. I am not a devout conservative, but I do not agree that even if you make more you should be taxed higher. Let’s put that into the hands of those who spend more and see where we get. I think that a National Sales Tax would be a great alternative. Yes I do agree that it sounds good, but let’s play Devils Advocate:
What are the drawback truthfully? I would really like to know before I jump on this bandwagon.
But that by the wayside, it doesn’t matter how to gov’t gets our dollars, it matters what they are doing with them…Jason
On another issue: Did anyone see the recent article about Walmart’s new RFID system in yesterday’s WSJ? Apparently they are asking all of their suppliers to go to a system that changes the cost of barcoding to $.15/pkg from less than $.01/pkg. OUCH! For a company that already does supply chain better than anyone else…why would they want to take it another level and that kinda cost? Their suppliers are really getting fed up with them telling them how to run their business, but they have done that for years on end.
You masy ask what the benefit is to the consumer? Higher prices on the shelves for a time period…I can guarantee that one. All of this so that they can track your spending habits more and more. This is getting beyonod ridiculous…..you might as well go give them your SS# which may happen one day. Take a look…I am sure that most of you buy something from the world’s largest retailer.

In G Washington’s farewell speech, after his 2nd term, he warned against the use of political parties and the fact that it would cause the republic to disolve. BRING BACK GEORGE FROM THE DEAD!—just a little humor to add to the blog.

Indeed George was an amazing guy. Have any of you visited Mt Vernon? HIs library is an amazing mixture of old and new. The new included a foot operated ceiling fan, a method of using a wet piece of paper to copy an existing documnet (the xerox of its day) and a very complete book library on the latest scientific studies of planting. In the winter he would cut ice from the potomac which was stored under the house, iced drinks in the summer!
The portion of Paul Johnson’s wonderful A History of the American _People on George relates that he was urged to become the first King of America. Washington rejected the idea. IN a wonderful passage Johnson relates how like Cincinnatus, George returned his sword to Congress at the end of the Rev War, having served at no salary and rode back thru the night alone on horseback to Mt Vernon. Now what Congressman or Senator have we had lately that went back home alone to return to his own business, this bunch stays in Washington to become lobbyists.
Also highly recommended, The Crossing starring Jeff Daniels, it was done for cable tv and tells the true story of the Crossing of the Delaware (remember the famous painting) and how George turned the tide by surprising the Hessians camped on the other side of the Delaware-a great performance by Daniels who researched the role and adds a real human element to a guy we only know on our money

Anything related to the Civil War and US Revolution I am interested in. I have visit the great state of Virginia several times and it will take you weeks maybe months to even brush the amount of history that state has to offer. Yes I have been to Mt. Vernon, and several other president’s homes. I wish I had more time to visit places like that as I did when I was younger. Like I am old right now. Yes George was an amazing man!
