Well whaddya know

I don’t know how long this link will be up on the DMN site, probably just for today but today you can read about the Dallas Design and Arts District.   Yes we have one and gee talk about conincidence, none other than one Gary Elam formed the Dallas Design and Arts Dist Assoc.  I don’t thnk we are direct kin but I will be contacting him this week.

Anyway, Gary wandered into the antique business back in the 1970s. He  is now afraid that spiralling rents will force some of the dealers out of the area as Victory Park expands-so dealers need to get ready now.

At any rate, some of you are warming and I think seeing the point of my pushing design as an instructional construct. Take a read, interesting.

I don’t really know what to say regarding this. I mean I hate to see these people be forced out of their area, but that is just a part of the world of business. This was certainly an interesting article of an area of Dallas that I was not even aware existed.
I hate to say that I am siding with big business, but the effects of a changing world are that if you live in it, you must change with it. I am very pleased that developers are looking to remodel the downtown area. I think that a facelift in this part of the city can only help to attract new business to the Dallas area in the future. Good Luck to them. Maybe there is an alternative for both sides that they can come to an agreement on.

I have not spent any time in Houston in years and years, thank goodness, but the Montrose district comes to mind there now that I think about it. It may have weathered all these changes and stayed in tact. I will be in touch with Gary and have some more reports, I did not know about this either.
By the way, did anyone read in B/W about the European MBA for selling luxury goods? Seems the students are being snapped up by luxury goods retailer and manufacturers.
