Thsi article suggests just being a controller  may not get you to the CFO job.  It seems corporations want folks that can explain the numbers to Wall Street and the banks rather than just crunch them. It is no accident that we emphasize public speaking in simple class exercises and in the Prof Development class.

Your ability to express yourself will ultimately determine your career path, or the lack therof, period.

Here are some suggestions   on impromptu speaking.

I agree, this past Friday I participated in a mock interview at a consulting company. It was a Behavioral interview, I was asked about some of my accomplishments; what they included, the outcome, how I got along others, my actions and reactions during each task. If found it challenging at times to express myself. Employers want to know that you’re capable express yourself well in any situation. I knew I could’ve done alot better with more practice. It was my first mock interview so I won’t be too hard on myself, I am looking forward to the feedback notes this week from the company. Knowing how to express yourself is very critical!
