This columnist introduces us to the latest career trend, gigonomics.  Lid off MBAs are going from gig to gig, pondering how long before they burn through  their cash stash, gee sounds like a dot.com to me.

An article in this past Sunday SA newspaper featured a couple with masters degrees and 'great' resumes though it never said in what field. Both are unemployed. Ironically the article was about the importance of having a college degree.

I would argue that, once the economy tanks, we find out who has vaulable skill sets and who was, in the jargon of a time past, just 'book smart.' Suddenly the ability to fix a used car so someone can get to work is more valuable, as new cars sit on the lots unsold.

This makes certifications in field more important than ever.  Please see my post December 18, it takes you to a list of some 40 certifications. Are they all valuable?  Honestly the best I can say is that having one is better than not having one. It is clear there are lots of college grads, what are you doing to distinguish yourself from the rest of the crowd?  That is why we offer a degree in accounting, Graduate study can quality you to take the cpa exam.  Passing the cpa exam will put you among the 26,000 Texas CPAs. And as far as I know, none are out of work….
