The Uncurriculum

Here is an article by a UT Philosophy Prof. It concerns giving structure to an undergrad core curriculum. He had in mind a curriculum centered around Great Books, a history of Western Civilization. 

The Humanities Dept had different ideas.

Okay sound off, do you think your core curriculum was worthwhile, or just killed some time and money waiting to get to the junior level classes. i suspect it is even worse at the Community College level where one is encouraged to just hang around and take classes.

    If one were to be worried about humanities and/or history cirriculam, would they have removed certain subjects from grade school and replaced them with technical courses? Just a thought. How many children are taught in 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue. Ask any other college students the amount of information they have retained and chances are slim to nill. So whats the point of a college education if most of the info is memorized and forgotten to make it through. Why a college degree? We are told that to be succesful in this world, we need these papers but how is your paper different from mine?
