William Burrus, Education Outreach Chair for San Antonio Institute of Internal Auditors spoke to our accounting classes Tuesday March 28, 2011. Internal Audit is one of the fastest growing segments of accounting. The SA IIA Chapter website is linked on the sidebar of this blog.

IMG_0152 We have a fine relationship with SA IIA and Texas A & M SA. This is the third visit to our campus by some of their representatives. Arlena Sones Past President of the group has also addressed our students.

SA IIA has generously decided to split their scholarship alocation between our campus and UTSA, thanks!

Special note, my iPhone clearly lacks a white balance adjustment to work properly under fluorescent lights!

    Dr. Elam,
Thank you so much for inviting Mr. Burrus to speak to the class. This was very interesting on internal audit. Also, thank you for informing the class that we are able to obtain a certification with our bachelor’s degree. I have never had instructor tell us this information.

I hope my exhortations to pick a certification now will allow my classes to avoid the mistake I made. I ended up going back to UT after my masters to study for the cpa exam. I should have done that the first time around while I was working on the masters degree.

Mr. Burns was very informative. I will now consider internal auditing vs external. It is my personal assumption that internal auditors may be appointed to regional areas. Of course it may depend on your employer.
The guest was very informative. Thanks Dr. Elam.
