A student requested that I post this announcement on the blog and I am doing so. I wrote an essay on how important graduation is to the school itself. This was written several years back but I will post it as originally written. I will be interested in your reaction. Meanwhile…

TAMU-SA Students –

You may have recently received an email stating that Texas A&M-San Antonio will move to one commencement ceremony per year in May. The University has chosen to send out this survey to all students to determine student opinion on the commencement schedule. Please note, students who apply to graduate at other times during the year (i.e., Summer or Fall) will officially graduate and be issued their diploma at that time. Those students will be invited to participate in the commencement ceremony either the May prior to or the May following the semester of their graduation.

For the past few years, TAMU-SA held a commencement ceremony in both Spring and Fall, and due to a lack of adequate facilities in the San Antonio area that meet our needs, we have been forced to limit the number of tickets each graduate is issued. In most cases each graduate received only eight admission tickets for their family and friends.

If the University hosts a single large commencement ceremony located at the Freeman Coliseum in May, we will be able to eliminate the need for admission tickets, and remove the restrictions on the number of friends and family members that can attend the commencement ceremony.

Please take time to tell us what you think and complete this survey. The results will be shared with the student body and will guide the planning of future ceremonies. Texas A&M University-San Antonio cares about our students… your opinion counts!
