Wednesday before Black Friday, the big shopping day, as I have done the last few holiday seasons, I posted Emerson's wonderful essay, Gifts. It has not garnered a single comment.
That's a pity. Many of you have first learned of Emerson in of all places, an accounting class. His wisdom spins on, take a look at Gifts, and then observe the mania that is the shopping season.
Times change but people don't.
The only gift is a portion of thyself, it is a cold lifeless business when you go to a shop to buy me something,
