HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS PROTEST IN BRAZIL
Hundreds of thousands of Brazilians made a noisy and impassioned call on Sunday for the removal of President Dilma Rousseff, who is plagued by the corruption scandal involving state-run oil company Petróleo Brasileiro SA, or Petrobras, Reed Johnson and Luciana Magalhaes report.
Organizers and police estimated it was among the largest antigovernment turnouts since Ms. Rousseff ascended to power in 2011. Demonstrators expressed a broad frustration that their country, a rising economic star on the world stage just a few years ago, has wasted a historic opportunity.
Prosecutors have accused executives from Petrobras and construction conglomerate Odebrecht of misconduct and demanded they pay 7.3 billion reais ($2 billion) in damages, Reuters reports.
