    Elizabeth Holmes Trial Begins Today

    Tuesday August 31 2021

    Elizabeth Holmes founded Theranos promising a myriad of tests from a single drop of blood.

    She is using a novel 'temporary insanity' defense, saying she was so upset by her former boyfriend she was not aware of the scam.

    She also recently had a baby, that is probably the back up plan if found guilty, ask for home confinement to care for the infant.

    This will be a great case to watch this fall.

    Problems with the EY Stagecoach Audit

    Monday August 30 2021

    Going Concern notes the big fine EY paid for three errors in a recent audit.

    I have already mentioned in class that we have several TBTF Too Big to Fail Institutions, CPA firms and banks. Here the audit supervisor missed three areas that were material. He moved to another firm, EY pays the fine and all go on down the road as though nothing happened.  Just reorting another of many such incidents.

    Aaron Beam, CFO Health South

    ?Today I recorded an interview on webex with Aaron Beam. Aaron is the former CFO of Health South.  This was Richard Scrushey's out patient firm.  Scrushey's desire to be the richest man in Alabama led to pressure to cook the books. Aaron describes his role in fan detail.  I will be posting that interview for students.

    Here is his website, I see he has started a series of podcasts. I very much enjoyed visiting with him and yes he lost his CPA license as well.  I am ordering his book on Health South as well as his book on ethics.
