Important Notice to Recent Scholarship Program Applicants
And Others Who Still Wish to Apply

If you applied for The IIA and AuditBoard merit-based Certified Internal Auditor® (CIA®) scholarship program prior to July 20, resubmission is recommended. Due to a technical issue, your application may not have been received. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience.

Together, The IIA and AuditBoard are partnering to support the growth and development of the internal audit community through the Elevate Internal Audit Scholarship Program. The program expanded to include the opportunity for up to 30 people per year to receive a merit-based scholarship (valued at more than $2,000) to help in obtaining CIA certification. As a reminder, the CIA scholarship is open to internal auditors in the US and Canada and does not require a pandemic-related disruption of income.

If you or someone you know applied prior to July 20, please resubmit your application. If you haven’t already applied but are interested in being considered for the scholarship, we encourage you to apply today. The submission deadline has been extended to August 15, 2021.

We look forward to reviewing your submissions. Questions? Please email elevate@auditboard.com.

    Thank you,

    Elevate Scholarship Program Team

    July 31 2021 Weekend

The British Financial Reporting Council is the apparent equivalent of our PCAOB.  The FRC found that 29% of the audits eamined needed serious improvement.

My question why is it that alll these big firms consistently fail to live up the standards they espouse?

    Weekend July 31,2021

Recall that some of the highest level KPMG execs hired a former PCAOB employee. With a poor record of too many errors in their public audits, the execs coerced the PCAOB employee to reveal which audits would be examined. This did not stay a secret.

The SEC has barred them from practice.

A couple received actual jail sentences, the others supervised at home incarceration.

One has to wonder how they thought they would get away when so many knew of the fraud.

Michael Taylor and has son received 2year an 1 year eight  month sentences for helping Carlos Ghosn escape from Japan to Lebanon.

Ghosn warned them to stay in Lebanon, instead they returned home to MA, where they were extradited back to Japan. Well what were they thinking?

Edward Fox warned of just such a situation in Day of the Jackal, whoever does this can never work again.

    You're Fired!

    .

The PCAOB Board prior to this got the boot after an employee revealed the audits to b examined to KPMG.

Now whistle blower complaints have resulted in a second round of firing the entire board.

Read the link above for the details.  While the SEC is at it, why not take the time to ask all Big  4 why they always have problems uncovered by the annual inspection. If they are such experts can't they get a couple of dozen audits clean in at least one year?

Lots of info here.  Please scan to the bottom!

Attached is the 3rd newsletter of 2021 – brought to you by our editor extraordinaire, Hope Harrell.   Please read through it to know what is going on with your chapter.  (Hint:  there is once again an opportunity to enter for a free dinner for 2 at an upcoming chapter meeting!)

This month – July – represents our very last 100% virtual chapter meeting.  Beginning in August, we will return to in person for those who are in town and comfortable getting out of the house.  However, we will ALSO continue to host the content virtually for those out of town or who are not quite comfortable meeting face to face yet.

Finally, and this is very important, IMA has asked that we split up our two topics this month to streamline CPE reporting as well as providing meaningful speaker feedback.  As a result, you will need to register for BOTH sessions (and for which you will get two different links).  Sorry gang!

You can still register for each session from the chapter webpage:  https://SanAntonio.IMAnet.org.  (You'll just need to do it twice!)

    Thursday, July 15th

Session #1: Working Styles of Different Generations (6-7pm)
Speakers:  Bruce Howard and Brandon Howard

Session #2: Baby Steps to Getting Out of Debt & Building a Financial Legacy (7-8pm)
    Speaker:  Allie Medvecky

Annual Meeting Sponsor:  Ryan Canales, TCG Trusted Capital Group, LLP

    _________________________________________

I know it’s been a while, but I am still with the House Moving company and we are looking for someone to help out part time.

It would be mostly A/p’s filing and other day to day accounting things, with some office work as well. I was wondering if you had any students that are dependable and would like to get some Quickbooks experience.

I would be more than happy to teach and work with them on some bigger picture things like forecasting and budgeting. They wouldn’t need any experience.

I know I didn’t have time for an internship because I was trying to support a family while in school, so if I as an alumni can help a current student it would be great.
