A TAMUSA accounting student was selected as a winner of last year SS scholarships.
In 2005, we established the Sol Schwartz & Associates, P.C. Accounting Scholarship Award to commemorate the 25th anniversary of our firm. Each year since then, we have been presenting an annual scholarship of $2,500 to an outstanding accounting student in San Antonio. In 2016, we increased our scholarship to $5,000. We are constantly striving to make our scholarship program more accessible to students to use for their education, which is why we have changed the time frame of our scholarship for 2019.
We would appreciate your assistance in promoting our scholarship. I have attached an application form for you to distribute or you can download a copy of the application form by visiting our website under Careers/Scholarship/Download the 2019 Scholarship application. The deadline for applying is Monday, April 15, 2019, finalist interviews will be conducted in late April 2019, the winner notified in May 2019 and the check presentation in early August 2019. The JP Morgan Securities Information event for students is scheduled on Nov 14th (Wednesday) 5-7 pm at the STEM
building room 242. The room is a large classroom with a capacity of 95. This wasn’t my preferred option but the Vista Room or the President’s Casa and even the large classrooms at CAB were not available at that time. I don’t expect any faculty to attend (unless you want to). However, I need enough students to fill up the room. So far I have only two students sign up.To keep track of students signing up, I’ve created a doodle pool. I would really appreciate if you can send your class, especially students enrolled in the senior level (43XX) Accounting or Finance classes. Please encourage them to attend and if needed, give them some extra credit to ensure they attend. We really need to have a good student turn out. -

for many years I have posted Emerson's essay on gifts prior to Black Friday, the annual shopping extravaganza that officially kicks off retail insanity. It used to be that Christmas Season did not officially start until after Thanksgiving. Yet I already see electronic trees and other stuff at Costco. So in a desperate plea for some sort of sanity I am posting the Essay in early November. I will be asking my classes to reflect on this 1844 essay which is surely as relevant today as then.

Transports lead so here is the chart. The DJIA and SPX recorded inside days. Here the Transports had a nice 2.82% rally. PMO at bottom has yet to exhibit an upside cross over.

Only 16% of SPX stocks are above their 50 day Moving Averages
The market has returned to the oversold bottom last seen in February.
Summation indices still falling. NASD means tech stocks and they roared to new highs and have been hit hardest as a group on the sell off.
New lows are still 8-9x new highs. And October finally comes to an end tomorrow. But the election next Tuesday is surely a wild card in how this ends.

On Thursday, November 15, 2018 we will be having our next networking dinner meeting. For both sessions, Lawrence Coffee and Mike Lovelace from Aventine Hill Partners will be discussing Business Intelligence and the amazing kinds of actionable information available to executives and leaders via desktop dashboards.
Microsoft Power BI is the topic. As we all know Excel is a big deal in the business world, It is a highly desired skill set for business in any industry. Power BI combines the functionality of Power Query and Power Pivot with Excel.
Many believe this is where the future is headed. It's used for data analytics, predictive analytics and trends. This wold be a great opportunity for Academics and Students to be introduced to a new system that many believe will be an integral part of business just as Excel is today.I encourage you to share this with your students. We will be inviting local recruiters and professional members will also be available to network with. We are striving to have two to three students from each campus attend. This is the best way we can continue to provide resources to students.

FASB addds SOFR for interest rate hedging.
SOFR is the Secured Overnight Financing Rate. This is being done after revelations that the LIBOR London Interbank Overnight Rate
was manipulated by fraudsters.
