Saturday in ACCT 5308 we discussed the Wave Theory pioneered by Accountant Ralph Nelson Elliott.

    Socionomics

postulates that social mood determines social outcomes. This is contrary to the conventional wisdom that external events determine mood and therefore events.

Politicians like to claim credit for any positive thing that happens during their watch. Bill Clinton claimed credit for the stock market rise of the  1990s.

But take a look. Eliott's five waves pattern exactly what Clinton experienced in office. It was excessive positive mood that buoyed the market and therefore his popularity allowing him to survive the Monica Lewinsky episode. Had that happened in say the Jimmy Carter era of negative mood, a President would not likely have stayed in office.

Carter is an example of a series of Presidents, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, and Carter, none of whom survived the negative mood of 1966-1982.

Former State Senator Carlos Uresti plead guilty in a bribery case.

He admitted receiving $10 K  a month from  the Lubbock business man who got a contract for medical services for Reeves county. Uresti then paid Jimmy Galindo the Reeves County Judge half that each month as a bribe for the contract.   Prosecutors will recommend this sentence run concurrently with the 12 year sentence in the Four Winds Cse.

A personal assistant to the Goldman CEO jumped to his death at the Carlyle Hotel.

Accused jumps to death when he was suposed to plead guilty.

The story here is that some people are so moved by their guilt they cannot face the consequences. David Solomon expressed regret

at the outcome noting De-Meyer had worked for his from  2008-2016.

Sears has employed a firm specializing in bankruptcies.

The article is a textbook lesson in why the cash flow statement is the most important. Sears has simply failed to generate cash to re pay debt and fund operations.

We have written about this for some time noting Eddie Lampert is no retailer. It is ironic that the firm which created catalog shopping in teh  1890s, now on line shopping via electronic catalogs, is going under.

Texas A&M University-San Antonio values the opinions and feedback of our students on the quality of instruction. The "Student Rating of Instruction" (SRI) system gives each student a brief survey for each course he or she is enrolled in at Texas A&M-San Antonio. This semester, we will be conducting the SRIs via an online platform. Paper and pencil evaluations will not be used.

On 10/10/2018 at 6:00am students will receive emails (Jaguar email accounts) with a hyperlink to the SRI for each class. In addition, they can find a link to their SRIs after they login to Blackboard (in the left-hand Tools menu on the My Institution landing page – NOT in your courses). Please note the following:

    ·         The evaluation can only be completed once for each class.

    ·         Evaluations are confidential, and faculty and administrators are unable to link student information with completed evaluations.

    ·         Surveys for First 8-Weeks Fall 2018 Term must be completed by 10/16/2018 at 5:00pm.

    ·         Faculty members will be able to access the results for review one week after final course grades are due (after final course grades have been posted).

    ·         While you will not be able to access results until one week after final course grades are due, you will be able to view your class response rates as soon as your students begin to respond. You can view this information by clicking on this link Login (Note: This link should not be shared with others; it is unique to you.)
