The CEO of high tech Dittach has grasped the problem. The Thing I don't look for in a developer is a degree in computer science.

Now consider the last sentence in his article.

A serious alternative to the $100,000 four-year college degree wouldn't even need to be accredited — it would merely need to teach students the skills that startups are desperate for, and that universities couldn't care less about.

Frankly I have long thought I cold conduct a Friday afternoon discussion session using some of the Dummies series of books and easily duplicate an MBA. CEoO Gelernter states he would rather hire someone who taught himself how to code in high school than a college grad who is probably ten years behind in a field that changes every ten minutes.

This should be a huge wake up call to universities, who continue to add to the trillion dollar plus student debt pile. Already some companies are starting their own internship programs, exclusive of colleges.

Peter Thiel founder of Pay Pal is already paying people not to go to college.

The message is here is anyone listening?

Now add to this what the University of Colorado is doing to cut costs.

Now add to that, Linked IN just bought Lynda.com for $1.5 Billion.  Jacob Morgan explains what this means.

I regularly preach the importance of focusing on a certification. We are in a transition such that the college degree in itself does not carry the weight it once did, indeed, see my next post.

Here isa link to CHFP.  People are living much longer thanks to the eradication of horrible diseases like polio and tuberculosis. Cancer is not the death sentence it once was. More jobs will be created in this field than any other. Take a look.

A big college campus can spawn and support some interesting local restaurants. A friend liked me to sticks and stones. the first page is their quality statement of how they make the food.  Screen Shot 2015-08-28 at 5.48.36 AM

Dr.Deming pioneered the idea of Total Quality Management. Here is a great example of just that in action.

Hi Dr. Elam and Dr. Welch,
I hope school is off to a good start.  We would like to have 1 or 2 students from each of you schools to serve as volunteers for the Member Appreciation Seminar on September 14th.  They can either stay for just the start of the day, or attend the whole seminar if they would like to do so.  In exchange for their service we will comp their attendance fee if they choose to stay for the whole day.  This is a good opportunity for a student to attend high quality training on Fraud, if they can fit the full day in their schedule.  Send me the contact information for your volunteers and we’ll coordinate directly with them.  Thanks!

Learn the details of the fraud seminar here

This is the way we have handled this in the past. Most of you have various obligations during the day.
So we have created a sign up sheet so that each student would be present for about two hours starting at 7 30 so you would be there to help with registration

This is an excellent opportunity to

    network with internal auditors

    learn more about fraud auditing

Display how helpful TAMUSA students can be on such an occasion.

Of course business casual,  no shorts, t shirts, flip flops, if you have an A & M logo shirt that would be a great idea

E mail me for the time you would prefer to be in attendance
