A survey reveals external pressure to alter internal audit reports.

this is why SARBOX heightened the importance of the audit committee. No one on the audit committee can be in management and all must be sophisticated about financial matters.

IGNITE purchased Macaroni Grill two years ago for $55 Million.

Now it is selling the chain for $8 Million, a 85% mark down.

Macaroni's 150 locations gross about $300 Million a year. Eight Million sounds like a bargain to me.

As accountants, it is imperative to be able to assess value. Clearly Ignite was unable to do that. I expect the buyers are on to a good deal here.

This report suggests ways that these three groups can achieve common goals.

I suspect the external auditors will readily rely on internal audit work as it cuts their work load but of course does not required dropping the price of he audit.

Suggested Subject: EWI's Pro Services Open House: 7 days, 48 markets, 100s of opportunities — FREE!

    Hello,

Our friends at Elliott Wave International have only done this once before, and the response was overwhelming.

From March 10-17, they are "opening the doors" to their entire line of Pro Services – free for one week – during: Pro Services Open House

Pro Services bring you EWI's most nimble, opportunity-rich, professional-grade forecasts for 48 of the world's top markets, some 24 hours a day, complete with Elliott-wave charts and analysis.

Here's a fresh example of the type of analysis and opportunities you'll see during "Open House."

On February 2, the popular forex market USDJPY traded near 117. The pair had gone sideways for days, yet the next move was becoming clear. From EWI's Currency Pro Service

"The sideways correction in USDJPY is probably a 4th wave triangle. Next, we should see a rally in wave 5 towards 119.10, and ultimately above 121.84."

Four days later, USDJPY indeed popped above 119. By February 12, it climbed as high as 120.48 — an impressive 300+ point rally!

During Open House, EWI's team of veteran Pro Services analysts will deliver top opportunities like this for U.S. stocks, gold, oil and EURUSD just to name a few.

Be one of the first 10,000 registrants and you'll also get instant access to the "Best Technical Indicators for Successful Trading." This free, 8-lesson resource will show you how to use Elliott wave analysis by itself — and in conjunction with other technical indicators. Follow the link below to access your free resource and put these tips in action during Pro Services Open House.

MCD's February sales slipped 4%. That is a huge drop for a retail giant. MCD is arguably way into its product life cycle, which is to say the maturity phase. At this point, most products have attracted a host of competitors and the innovation that characterized the original product is long gone. The New CEO is grappling with this reality.

Accountants need to understand marketing as well as accounting to participate in structural decisions.

The XES energy service ETF is down nearly 2% in early going.

Very few of our accounting students take the CPA exam upon completing graduate school. Which of course means few pass.

I attended an interesting session on group activity at the conference in Las Vegas. One administrator was studying the difference between commuter and resident students at his community college. The residential students living on campus in dorms had an average  3.1 GPA, the commuter students living off campus had   2.3, a huge difference.

I suspect the reason is that for the commuter student, college comes in at number three, after work and home life. For the residential student, college is the job. And there is rivalry to spur one on.

C H Smith ponders the rivalry of a cohort group in considering the Beatles. There have been many studies of the group as they stayed together from the founding in the late 1950s to the final break up in 1970. His point is that yes there was rivalry and resentment at times but that simply spurred the creative impulse to out do, out song write, the other guys.

I suspect we will not move to another level of CPA test taking until we have a larger, more cohesive cohort group.

Here is a brief legislative history of the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy.

This is the centennial year,  1915 – 2015 for the Board. I honestly did not know there were CPAs in Texs in 1915!  I doubt there were very many.

Certificates are issued in number order, the current number stands around  105,000. there are about  65,000 CPAs currently practicing in public or private or government.

I see the University Library is open during spring break. If you cannot get by you can use their chat line to visit with a helpful librarian. This wold be a good time for our grad students to make sure they have retrieved all the relevant published papers on their topic.

The University Library will have altered hours during Spring Break:

    ·         Saturday, March 7 – Sunday, March 8: CLOSED

    ·         Monday, March 9 – Wednesday, March 11: 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.

    ·         Thursday, March 12 – Sunday, March 15: CLOSED

A friend sent me the article on the closing of Sweet Briar College.  Apparently the fund raising efforts did not keep up with the financial requirements.
