it is clear that both Republicans and Democrats would like to play a government shutdown to its own advantage. Each would claim the other is at fault, supposedly netting vote gains in 2014.

Maybe not.  Markets are claim with stocks up this morning as a partial shutdown kicked in last night.

What this really shows is a lack of good governance. Can anyone grasp how much money $16.39 trillion really is.

    Weekend Sept 29 2013

After trying the other two mainstream accounting books, I returend to Spiceland. Please note that there are numerous solved problems within each chapter. These are the type of problems on the exams this week.

It is imperative that you review Ilustrated solutions. For example, in the sixth edition of Spiceland, there are 14 illustrations of how to work time value problems This is in addition to the two Concept Review Exercises. You must be able to work these by practicing until you can solve them without looking at the answer. There is no simple way to achieve your goal of mastering accounting.

I hear this guy Jeff Bezos is supposed to be really smart. He is head of Amazon, he just bought the Washington Post but is leaving all their left wing writers who have consistently taken circulation down in place so beats me but…

The Kindle Whizbang Super Duper HD HDX tablets are being announced. The new version features on micro USB port. whoopee

If there is anything a computer type device needs it is connectivity. My macbok pro has two USB ports AND an SD card input. A MacBook Air has two USB ports and an SD card slot.

So how come there are not the same input devices on all these tablets?  A tablet looks like the perfect way to display the photos from your digital camera. But you would have to send them to flickr and then access flickr on the tablet to do that.

Simplest is bestest. I really do not want to hear any more about wireless after my never ending quest to hook up a roku box on the other side of our house.

That's great for Jeff Bezos and now departed Steve Jobs that they have sold a jillion tablets, but not to me.

I am holding out for the real USB port and the real SD card slot. Till then, good luck without me as a customer guys.

A new book titled, “Creating Organizational Crisis Plans,” was written by Dr. Michelle Maresh-Fuehrer, an Assistant Professor of Communication at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and a longtime friend. Her book has received rave reviews from around the world; many herald it as the first book of its kind. I want to share the press release and announcement with you and perhaps we may be able to have her visit our campus.

The book has been discussed in The Chronicle of Higher Education, the Bulldog Reporter's Daily 'Dog, Revista Imagen de Buenos Aires, Argentina, Corpus Christi Caller Times and the list keeps getting longer. Search for her book online (sold out) to discover how popular it has become. I plan on purchasing my copy at the book signing next week October 1 in Corpus Christi.

the book is available on Amazon.

College of Business students at TAMUSA will shortly be asked to fill out a survey on extra curricular activities. While we are and will be a commuter campus, there is no reason we could not branch out in the larger dimension ar cultural experience. A few semesters back I noted hat only one student out of two classes knew that  the line

it was the best of times

it was the worst of times

came from Charles Dickens' novel  A Tale of Two CIties about the French Revolution. It is inexcusable that someone claiming to be a college graduate would not know that.

I note that Tennessee Wiliams' A Streetcar Named Desire  is playing at the Little Carver Civic Center. I saw a production with Faye Dunaway at the Ahamason in Los Angeles decades ago. It is am American classic and that is why it is performed so often. It got a fine review in the SA paper today.

I would suggest that outings to such performances could be planned with commentary afterwards or before at a suitable outdoor venue. such experiences and discussion are to me the essence of what one might call the University Experience.

A fine exhibit of how Norman Rockwell posed real people for his paintings has been at the McNay. That would be another good example of a cultural outing

    Anyone interested?
