Good morning and welcome to Fall Semester! I am very pleased to announce that we now have a full time Business Librarian, Rachel Pecotte, to work with you and your students! It has been a pleasure filling in for the Business Librarian position this year and I have greatly enjoyed working with you all. As we transition duties over to Rachel, please feel free to get in touch with either of us as you have questions.

Hello, my name is Rachel Pecotte and I am excited to join the University Library team here at Texas A&M University -San Antonio. I received my master’s degree in library science from Texas Woman’s University in 2021 after completing my practicum coursework here at Texas A&M University- San Antonio where I assisted in the creation of our FAQ guide and gained instructional experience. After graduating I went on to serve as the US Patent and Trademark Representative at the San Antonio Public Library. I look forward to working with you and our wonderful students.

I recommend on your syllabus that you subscribe at the student rate to the WSJ. Here are a couple of good examples from today Aug 22 of what you might learn.
I am teaching ACCT 4311 Audit and ACCT 5308 Ethics, the first article addresses both.
United Kingdom Financial Reporting Council (probably similar to our SEC) is creating a new Register of who can audit public companies in the UK.Those companies are known as Public Interest Entities or PIEs.
Clearly this requirement to re register is a step up in barring individuals seen as responsible for botched audits in the past. As you will see in my classes we will read numerous cases of just that.

Meanwhile at the movies. Movie Chains just about went broke during Covid and now cineworld has. It is UK based and owns Regal Cinemas.
The latest movie fad is moving Marvel Comics heroes to the screen. The next will be Dwayne Johnson in Warner's Black Adam Johnson's movies have grossed $ 5 billion world wide, he is the new Arnold S.

Cristina Wheeler was a student of mine when I was teaching at Texas State. She has had yet another number 27 surgery to correct brain tumor difficulty she has experienced since age 12. She is retiring from Federal Govt and coming back to Texas. A wonderful lady who could use the help.
