Well here I go again, stressing the importance of DESIGN. Check out this article on the design of the new malibu. GM does not have as much money to spend but needs to compete in this market, will their design win folks over-check this one out. And by the way, have you noticed that great tv ad for the new I Phone? Analysts have Apple stock going even higher, no wonder, it is a great design, the thing that has propelled AAPL stock ever upward.

One of the comments I like is one made made by Lutz a vice-chairman at GM, “managers who are sufficiently courageous to take risks…will get outstanding work.” This of course goes back to management risk aversion and how much of their neck they are willing to put on the line for their designers for the long term benefit (hopefully) of more profits. GM right now especially needs to be willing to take risks because they are almost to a point where they have nothing to lose and to meet the needs and wants of the consumers they need to come up with something new. Another thing I think that was probably a long time in coming, was more collaboration between desginers and engineers so that each wll know what the other is capable of and willing to do.

Indeed has nothingor everything to lose depending I guess on one’s point of view. It is time to be bold. Studebaker managed that in their last few months with the Avanit but that could not save the company. Will GM and Ford become Truck manufacturers only? I am seeing more Impalas on the street, so that one is selling.
