Here is an interesting study of optimism. There seems to be a middle ground of optimism and pessimism, with optimism winning the day, except for one profession. This is an interesting article, your take?

Very interesting article indeed. I am an optimist, and the qualities that they listed: save money, pay off credit cards faster, less likely to smoke, fit me perfectly. I also view all people as harmless, which is a huge downfall of mine sometimes, I have been fooled way too many times. Manju Puri said it perfectly, “Optimism is a little like red wine, in moderation, it is good for you; but no one would suggest you drink two bottles a day.”

Thanks for your contribution to both posts. And I love the quote above. As you say the oversupply of houses causes distress on everyone. Glad your family was able to sell.

I would have to agree with the article. It just seems to make sense that if a person is optimistic they would be better off. In my mind they would be more likely to prepare for the future and know that they could accomplish their goals even with a few minor set backs that would normally stop a pessimistic person.

It will be important to remember this as markets turn down and make new lows the next few months. Will the events in Pakistan turn out for the better or create more chaos in the region, good question, will the optimists (we can get along) or the pessimists (no we cannot) win out.
