I remarkd in the last post about how much change has taken place in Alabama, where one might have least expected it. But in other posts we note that past back benchers like Ireland are taking the lead in CHANGE!  Alabama and Ireland are both doing it with lower taxes, better education, and an open door policty to business.

Read what Gorbachev, yes that Gorbachev says about the recent elections in Russia. While I am no student of the Russian election system, one can see it leaves much to be desired.  I was particularly drawn to Gorbachev’s lament that  the Russian people were depressed under decades of Communist Rule. That’s quite a statement from the last communist leader of Russia!

Bob Dylan had it right ,the time’s they are a changing.

Dear Mr. Elam, it would be nice if you could consider substantiating your comments with constructive arguments, otherwise unsupported speculations “leave much to be desired”. If you are “not student of” foreign election systems, then perhaps you could concentrate on commenting on something that you are more aware of, and perhaps in the area where you’d be more culturally literate. Additionally, being exposed to something new (like another culture for example) could, at times, broaden one’s horizons.

Mr. Gorbachev’s comments speak for themselves. In answer to Reagan’s belief that an arm’s race ended the Soviet Union, Mr. Gorbachev replied, no, it was the systematic failure of Comunism to provide a workable ecoonomy. Decades after the end of WW II Russia has yet to produce one consumer product with a world demand other than vodka, AK 47s, and the commodity of oil. Jim Rogers in Investment Biker predicted years of civil war and chaos as Russia tries to sort itself out. The latest edition of the Economist, known for being culturally literate, details the problems there.
