I last posted this link  December 18, 2008.  That is a link to over 40 different accounting certifications.

We are getting numerous inquiries from new students on what it takes to become a cpa.

I will be preparing a repot on just that issue. In summary it takes 24 hours of business courses, 30 accounting hours past the first six hours of accounting classes, an approved ethics class, 150 hours of college, and more.  My suggestions has been that students should first tackle perhaps a lower level certification and see how they do before investing years and tens of thousands of dollars on an uncertain outcome.

Every week I look up the new job posting, not because I am looking but, because I want to keep up with what’s in demand. I noticed on a few of the positions open the requirements are CMA or CPA ready. That’s good to know.

Why is it these other certifications and designations are not more talked about? The CMA and CPA seem the most important when it comes to job hunting and promotion.

I have been considering looking into a CIA and CMA prior to CPA. Quite frankly, the description you and other profs are giving about sitting for the CPA exam make taking 18 hours in one semester like a cake walk

I want to devote part of a class in ethics to these various certifications, I did do that substituting in tax class and the students were most interested
