Natasha Richrdson, wife of actor Liam Neeson and an accomplished actress, has died of an apparent head injury while snow skiing. Oddly she seemed okay so the paramedics did not examine her. It was only later that she began feeling ill.

So sad to lose a life. I agree that safety should be a priority, but you can die doing anything, dangerous or not. Just my soap box input.

True
but some things, like driving around town after midnite on the weekend clearly raise the danger levels, skiing is another one of those things.

While residing in NW Indiana I tried sking once. Didn’t get off the the “bunny trails” and fell WAY too many times. I made a decision the cold weekend in January to never attempt to ski again. Have also chosen not to “car surf” or ride motorcycles. Guess I’m a chicken

I’m in Utah skiing right now and it’s interesting to see how many skiers do wear helmets. There appears to be an inverse correlation with age–far more younger skiers wear helmets than older skiers. However, I rode up a lift with a middle aged couple who bought their first ski helmets after hearing the news of Natasha Richardson’s death.

I skiied for years back in the 1970s and no one wore a helmet except in the Olympics, I suspect it will become mandatory like bicycle helmets.
I did ski Utah once, great powder!LikeLike
