Texas  has apparently exhausted money in its unemployment fund. I say apparently because frankly teh article is not clear, click to read.

Gov Perry did reject taking federal stimulus money because doing so would require extending benefits AFTER the Federal money has run out. Some Texans have already gone through 59 weeks of unemployment benefits. Well unemployment is not a job but a bridge. Making unemployment compensation the new employment is precisely the sort of thinking that got California and the NE is trouble.

why didn’t Perry just limited the sources of money or cut back in giving instead of not accepting the stimulus money? I think if he would had thought clearly of the repercussions this would not had happen. sometimes thinking of long term doesn’t take effect on the short term.

Unemployment bnefits are set by the legislature, I do not beleive the Goernor could arbitrarily change them.
I have always thought unemployment bneefits, after so many weeks, should start declining to remind the recipient that they are a bridge between jobs, not their new job.

In good times, I would say people who are unemployed milk the system but when the work force is seeing significant job loss, a higher number of people would rather be at work than collect unemployment – It is easy to ridicule those who have been out of work for sometime now and I rather caution towards the ones who have had the benefits exhausted and are unable to find a job.
I rather pay a person unemployment who is unable to find a suitable job their unemployment benefits than cut their benefits because of those who take advantage of the system.
It is demoralizing enough for those who want to work when they receive money, I am just glad I have a job.
