GM has offered a $1,000 trade in allowance on Toyotas. Hmm, see our previous post today about the accelerator problem with Toyotas.

Now let's connect the dots.

Toyota has a problem with accelerators sticking.

Toyota recalls vehicles under the DOT regulations, remember the Dept of Transportation is part of the Federal Government.

Toyota does not operate in union shop states for a majority of its plants.

The UAW makes large donations to this Administration.  Proof, the Administration left GM bondholders with nothing and made the UAW a big shareholder.

Now the Govt Motors is General Motors.

Just days after the recall, Govt Motors offers incentives for Toyota Trade Ins.

Okay you connect the dots, is there a conflict of interest here?  Is the US Govt favoring the UAW, ie, GM Chrysler workers and contributors to the election campaign of the Administration over Toyota?

You tell me.

Oh did I mention that Congress has scheduled hearings on the Toyota recall?  Will that be a show trial, remember when Congress excoriated GM et al for flying to Washington DC to ask for a bailout?

I think that Toyota should do a recall and fix the problem with the accelerator if its defective. However, I do think that GM, UAW, and the federal govt. are going to take advantage of the situation. If I owned a company that was a competitor of Toyota I would do the same thing. This is a great time for GM to try and steal market share from Toyota when they are at a point when they are potentially losing public confidence and customer base. Its just business.

Why would a buyer necessarily believe that GM was less prone to mistakes than Toyota?

That flies in the face of Deming’s long term focus which is how Toyota beat GM in the first place. I am writing a case for ethics class on this.

I think a buyer would believe GM was less prone to mistakes because they were ‘JAPAN’ made (stereo type) and we have never really heard of any recalls from Toyota as compared to GM. Most people I know ‘think’ just because it is ‘japan’ made, it is of more quality..why I dont know.
Now that Mr. Whittaker is in the lead at GM, looks like things could be taking a positive turn for GM. That man knows business, not vehicles. Its all about business and numbers.
