Screen shot 2011-09-21 at 5.46.32 AM The world of digital photography and video has allowed all sorts of new communication. The Orient Express is a hotel chain, who knew? And they have created a travelogue of a fictional family galavanting all over the world, living the Town and Country lifestyle, impossibly thin but always seen eating, clothes impeccably presented, never crumpled after retrieval from a crushed duffel, yep this is the ticket!

I took me a while to figure out what they were promoting, but it is lifestyle and the hotel chain.

Heck If I thought I would look that thin in one of their videos, I'd check into one of their expensive hotels myself!

Anyway, the quality of the video is impressive, just goes to show you what a bit of creativity can do. Still no recession in First Class on the Orient Express….

Unfortunately in times like this you have to be rich in order to do that. Wait I forgot there is no middle class anymore so even in a bullish economy you would still have to be rich to do things like this. Lets face it Capitalism is what brought this country to where it is but beware of the double edged sworn because you will get struck. That’s right it is the down fall as well. These resorts specialize in pampering the wealthy because that is all who has money now.

I have to challenge the notion that Capitalism is such a demon. No matter which economic system you might choose, there is a down-side to it. As a student, one of my goals is to put myself in a position to make as much money as I can (for myself and for my family). This capitalist country has produced more entrepeneurs, inventors, and celebrities than any other in the history of the world! James Sherwood and his Orient Express have created a remarkable enterprise! Every one of the hotels and transportation systems under the Orient Express name is owned outright! Sure, you have to have money to partake in the experience they offer. I for one am here at Texas A&M-San Antonio to put myself in a position to be their Accountant or, if not, to enjoy their experience. Do the other economic systems offer this kind of opportunity? I see no proof that they do.

Good advertising is the key to making money, I think that there was a book about the Orient Express train traveling from Europe to China and back, it probably was an electrifying trip and only the rich could afford it. This travel company with its many travel options is tapping into the excitement of traveling to foreign lands and countries. This web-site with its stimulating pictures is just good advertisement. Accountants keep track of the money, but it is the advertising people who bring the money it.

It’s really amazing to know that while many people are going through a recession. Others (the rich)can afford such luxuries as enjoying the Orient Express. WIth that said it is important to have an education, as Luis mentions. With education we will be able to get better jobs and opportunities than those who don’t.
