Avon AVP received an unsolicited bid from Coty to buy the company. Avon is looking for a new CEO amid the offer. And it is reeling from lay offs due to the recession. I was surprised that it employs 40,000 not ocunting the would be salesforce.
This is a great opportunity to study a company and it value as we study the equity side of the balance sheet. Please read this article.
In reading the article, it doesn’t seem like Avon has many options while shares continue to drop in price. I think Avon is hoping that bringing on a new CEO would revive the company and take a turn for the better but highly doubtful. I think they should count their blessings, take the offer from Coty, hope that shares go up with the merger between the two while the investigation from the SEC doesn’t run their reputation completely through the mud.
