I just ate a double meat whataburger and on the receipt they have a website listed with the opportunity to receive a free burger if you take their online survey. This is a good way for the restaurant to receive feedback from their patrons while giving them an incentive for their opinion about their experience at the facilities and to find out the quality of their product.

What is considered a better burger? A healthier burger? A wheat bun? A burger that tastes better? One made with more vegetables? Or is it a burger that is made with from 100% Angus? Has anyone ever gone to a auction barn and really seen what kind of cattle that some meat market companies are buying? I have and it is quite disgusting! These cows are usually at a sale barn for a reason and not always “just to sell!” It’s usually for a reason, like they can no longer produce or they may be “fence jumpers” or well the most obvious they are ANCIENT! So many times I have been to an auction and seen our LOCAL meat packing companies purchase these old cows that are nearly dead! Yep and that’s what you buy at the grocery store or wait is that in your Better Burger????

My understanding of the beef industry is that the cattle is sold in bulk (so many head of cattle per sale) and they are herded into a slaughter facility for processing. I worked for Louis Rich in Iowa and South Carolina. We processed turkeys, and if a turkey appeared “old” or distressed in any way, it was pulled out and given back to the vendor, who in turn sold it elsewhere for dog food or for some other use. Our turkeys had to be robust and mature in order to be processed for human consumption; otherwise, the USDA and FDA would have been all over us. I imagine the same is true for the beef industry.

Well I have eaten my fair share of burgers for sure and the best I have tasted is Five Guys Burgers and of course they are criticized for being unhealthy… So you know their good. Honestly I don’t care what type or where the cow comes from…because really if we owned and processed our own herd…which ones are you gonna eat…the ones that are old or will not produce or are trouble makers…your not going to get rid of your money makers are you?….Back to five guys…they are not publicly traded but they are in 40+ states and in Canada. I don’t know what makes them good but I definitely suggest trying them.
