This morning's paper has an interesting story bout a couple on their honeymoon no less, crossing America in a unique fashion. Their site, breakfast with strangers invites folks to audition for a breakfast so that the couple and meet and learn more about them. 

The result is both a blog and a forthcoming book highlighting who they have met. I am beginning a somewhat similar idea in that we will be sitting down with various individuals in San Antonio to relate their experiences in business via You tube interviews. 

So what are you planning, has anyone started a blog about their college experience at TAMUSA?

    Sounds like a great idea! Maybe something of this caliber should be implemented into the curriculum. You’re probably wondering how? Well, for example: in marketing and business communications, you give many presentations on various products or ideas. So, this idea would fit in perfect! Another idea I had was to have business students begin to start their own company. Nothing major, but something to get the idea of what it would be like to be your own boss, run the business, and if, fail. Just ideas that run through my mind.

    So, recently I bought Kiplinger’s: Personal Finance magazine, January 2013 issue. I read an article by Susannah Snider: Texas trots out cheap diplomas, is a $10,000 degree a boon for students or a gimmick? As I read the article, they interviewed a professor of political science at Texas A professor Kim Quaile Hill. Professor Kim states, “This is an educational gimmick”. His claims: programs rely on large classes, less-prestigious professors, and restrictions place on elective coursework. Texas A&M-San Antonio was named in the article. I felt offended personally! What are your thoughts on what he said Dr. Elam?

    I posted a longer comment which did not get published for some reason. As I work in the A & M System and this is official policy, I am on eggshells here. But as for the You get what you pay for comment, I had a student who transferred back here from College Station. She was saving tens of thousands of dollars in fees, tuition, parking, etc. And she will get a degree from an A & M school.
    What you do with your degree in terms of professional certifications will have a lot more to do with your future success than the degree itself. I have continually stressed that in all my classes.
    By the way, how many research articles have you been required to read in your college career? I see this professor puts great stock in that…..the Governor does not.
