As one student observed you would think Mike Dell would have counted the votes before trying to take the company public, apparently not.

Southeastern Asset  the largest shareholder says the price is too low

that firm might try to buy Dell

and there are rumors HP is looking at the deal

What were you thinking Mike?

The HP thing is a side show, a way to force dell to divide his attention. We all know the CEO of HP has one goal “Cut Debt” and get into the black, a take over of Dell without additional financing might be possible but at what cost? At the very least it would Force HP to put its fincancial reorganization on the back burner. I find that a bit hard to swallow. HP had publically committed to slashing debt and failing divisions this would be a major reversal of public policy.
Think of it like this Dell is the pitcher with SouthEastern sitting on second base taking a huge lead off (looking to steal thrid). So HP steps up into the batter box and drops the bat to knee level as if they are going to try and bunt down the thrid base line. HP can’t bunt, won’t bunt without something really strang happening, so this is just a show to force Dell think about to many things at the same time.
