 The World Changing Margaret Thatcher by British Historian Paul Johnson. Have you read any of Paul Johnson's books?

The American Margaret Thatcher has yet to emerge. Why not I wonder?  With a record number of female senators I still fail to see one of real conservative conviction.  Where is the person of priciple rather than convenient political vote of the moment?  We do not lack for females with massive progressive conviction, Diane Feinstein and Barbara Boxer continue to lead their state of California to financial oblivion. Stockton CA is now the largest US city currently in bankruptcy.

    Here is a funny bit of back story: When she first entered politics she had a very high tinny voice that was very off putting for the day. So she employed speech theripists till she developed a deeper more commanding voice. Also she was one of the first modern politicians to use body language coach’s.
    My point is that despite her actions it took fakerie to create a situation where her convictions were able to lead the UK.

    Hmm. I must address the back-handed slap at Mrs. Thatcher. Many politicians employ coaches and consultants to help them hone their craft. It was not “fakery” so much as an effective use of her resources to achieve her vision. Something politicians absolutely must do is communicate with their constituents. Is it so bad that a woman of that time found it necessary to revise her delivery so that it commanded greater respect in a realm dominated by men? I’d say from the breadth of her accomplishments, her performance (if you will) on the world stage was quite stellar.

    A response if I may: I was not being critical of the Lady, I was however being critical of society that relys on flair/showmanship/coaching over quality. As to the “many politicians” comment I remind that I said she was one of the “first” modern politicians to use such devices. Was she a great politician? yep. Would she have been elected without such “adjustments”? doubtful. Is she the gold standard for women in politics? nope she was the gold standard for any convicted politician who believes their values and wish’s to see them implimented on a large scale.
