No one is a monopoly any more.

ESPN has had a big drop in subscribers as other ways to watch sports have emerged.  A black swan is an unexpected event. There are more than you think consider

Amazon versus brick and mortar

the Re Making of television

Electric Cars

and I personally think Higher Ed could be hit by a series of Black Swan evenbts

I have always wondered how HEB was ‘allowed’ to have a monopoly on the grocery industry for so long. Even with Walmart and Target adopting the grocery store aspect, I still feel like HEB is the only real choice for grocery needs in San Antonio.

The interesting thing about the grocery business is that there are no secrets, no we have the patent and you don’t monopoly. Everything is in plain sight including the prices. Our faculty spent a morning at HEB headquarters learning their philosophy. And they visit our campus once a year to spread the word. Each store is different, adapted to the specific neighborhood it serves. Walk through several HEBs and one can see that. Walk through a Wal Mart and it is just stuff for sale.
