Jerry Flint  counts the votes in the midwest and concludes the Federal Government will keep GM alive, Chrysler, I don't know, perhaps. Flint also had a good column on electric cars.

the problem with electric cars is that they take too long to recharge, the batteries are too expensive, and one hauls around a very heavy battery. This works for an oil pumping unit where the motor weight is no problem and the electric line means no need to re charge. This does not work for a car which can be re charged in minutes, with gasoline.

Note, the new Forbes.com page easily wins my vote for the most irritating web page in history, One cannot or at least I could not shut off the audio for the video, worse then a commercial begins speaking so two people are speaking at the same time while I am trying to read Jerry Flint. I stopped subscribing to Forbes several years back, I am glad I did. This is NOT the way to draw people to a website, at least not this person.

    10 In Demand Jobs

A tip of the hat to Tamara Black who linked this article for us. A couple of observations.

Now that the economy has turned down, the bar has been raised. One student reported yesterday for example that KPMG simply let go  the new hires that did not pass the CPA exam the first time, well so much for life work balance and going along to get along. Welcome to 2009.

There are probably jobs for Operations Managers that understand and have experience on the factory floor or in construction who can construct a PERT chart. I doubt there are ANY General Manager jobs, those would morph into commission sales jobs.

The blather on television that passes for expert commentary is just amazing. This morning Abby Cohen at Goldman Sachs suggested that 'the government programs are beginning to work.'

Abby, smell the coffee. Markets move according to the Elliott Wave Theory.
The markets have collapsed as a result of one hundred years of inflating the money supply.
The US has near abandoned manufacturing, which if you think about it, is one pursuit that actually creates wealth. Does producing computer games produce real wealth?  The result of this paper/service economy based on fiat money is a tidal wave change that is wringing the excess out of the system. This will not get done in 18 months.

The truth is that the markets would have made a bottom if the government had done nothing, which is essentially what they did in terms of a coherent plan quite frankly. Now they are doing the same thing they did since 1972 when the US abandoned the gold standard, inflating the money supply. Will this money supply stave off deflation, we shall see. Can Bernake get us all to start buying and the banks lending?

In the meantime try to keep a perspective. No government can repeal the business cycle. This is what our government is trying to do.

Lance Armstrong broke his collarbone as a result of falling during a race in Spain. Armstrong, 37, was quoted as saying

"been lucky to avoid one of the most common cycling injuries" in his 17-year career.

"The crash has put my upcoming calendar in jeopardy, but the most important thing for me right now is to get back home and rest up and begin my rehab," Armstrong said.

This CFO article How Extreme is the Makeover mya be the most important you will read in your college career. An overview from the FASB is here.

    FASB news release is here.

FASB full exposure draft and more than you want to know is here.

The upshot of this is that the IFRS and the FASB US have decided that current financial reporting is inadequate to comprehend what is happening, read meltdown. This is equivalent to the Black Plague convincing the scientists of the Day that the Four Humours Theory was not cutting it…

The new approach, see FASB overview above will have the income statement showing cash income from operations investing and financing and grouping expenses the same way. I suspect the upshot is to show whether the business is staying alive on operations or simply rolling over debt to keep cash coming in the door.

    As Bob Dylan observed

Gov Perry  wrote an op ed explaining his position in the Sunday SA Express News.

The Governor's position is interesting and constructive. He opposes taking Federal money for the reason that this will extend unemployment benefits. These must be paid by state employers. The Governor believes that more taxes on  potential employers is not the answer.

Read his column and sound off!

Mike Huckabee is hosting a television show thinly disguised as his campaign for the Presidency in 2012. Tonight  he broadcast from Elkhart IN, spotlighting a town that won't give up and just wants a hand up, not a helping hand. Right…

Seems the claim to fame here is that Elkhart is the RV manufacturing epicenter of America. JUst the industry to diversify out of I would say. If Elkhart never made another RV it challenges my imagination that all the inventory on I 35 and out I 10 from San Antonio would ever get sold.

But I digress.  What does Elkahrt want?  Well money from the government which would be used I guess to help a community college.  Elkhart wants more loans for inventory for manufacturing.

    And then , big finish

MIke led them in a big cheer demanding

-the firing of the Treasury Secretary (that would be the person presumably signing their check)
    –  and lower payroll taxes for all manufacturers, wait a minute aren't you guys on unemployment insurance?

Yep a helping hand indeed….it is unrealistic to bite the hand that feeds

I suspect that we have seen the end of the RV by sales industry.  I am told that frequent breakdowns make rental impractical if not impossible.

Well I guess that settles that, about the best cafe that is.

Johnny Dee and the Rocket 88s

Johnny Dee and the Rocket 88s performed at  the Floore Country Store in Helotes this March 22.
A beautiful Sunday afternoon to celebrate rock and roll and raise a bit of money for Veterans.
The chap on the left sure does a great Roy Orbison as well as play the keyboard.

SA TX A & M Student enjoys the band

One of our accounting students enjoyed the afternoon!
You may recognize the Rocket 88s as the band performing Don't Mess with Texas in the tv ads.
They have performed for the Governor and helped raise money for lots of charities.

A good time was had by all!
