San Antonio has the lowest four year tuition in San  Antonio, good thing. College across the nation continue to act as though demand for their product is totally inelastic.  That is no matter the price, consumers will pay it. I wonder.

The cost of college has escalated  faster than the salary has risen from obtaining that college degree.

in the 1930s SMU cut professor salaries 20% one year than another 50% two years later. State economies are going to be pressed, sales taxes will be lower and property taxes will be a lot lower. In Texas falling oil prices mean lower severance tax revenues.

A lot of this is illusory. When students sign  a note they are not really seeing the final cost of the product, until they graduate that is. I suspect this is yet another perfect storm on the horizon.  College budgets are expanding but the revenue sources and tax base are declining, tough times ahead for state and private universities i think. The pace of construction at large schools is simply asounding, take a stroll acroos any large campus to see what I mean. When wil luniversities get the same message Toyota and GM are receiving today?

I’m happy hear at our small campus. All I want is more parking. After I graduate next year, I will owe about $30,000 for unsubsidized /subsidized loans. Not to mention all the debt I’ve accrued over the years in charging some tuition and books when, I didn’t get a loan. That’s another thing… books these days are RIDICULOUSLY high. $220 for a book is unreasonable…we don’t all have trust funds.

Agreed, will the electronic book ever catch on?
I will be using printed handouts for Acct Ethics.
We are required to have a textbook for the class though I think I would have more luck with a Schaum’s Outline for 18 bucks, at least the students might read it.

School tuition is no joke…thank goodness that san antonio still has resonable tuiton. I will probably be paying my student loans the rest of my life not too mention the other debts I have built up. Hopefully one day I will have everything paid off!!!

Tuition fees continue to rise as well as college miscellaneous expenses. Where the hell would our parents will get this all expenses. The government should do something about this. They should either lessen the tuition fees nor provide more scholarship.

I am not sure who on line college consulting is but
the solution is not for the government to mandate lower tuition, that is not their function, and the leg in Texas tried that with UT, only to let UT set their own and of course was amazed that UT raised it $2K in two years, well what did theleg expect?
the much better idea is not so obvious, lower the top amount available for student lowers, that’s right, lower it, then let the students explain to the schools that they just cannot pay ever increasing tuition. This is called a market based solution. Increasing the student loan limit just gives the school a green light to raise again!
