An Apple Television sold only in Apple Stores would certainly drive traffic to the store. Stihl does not sell in big box retailers preferring the more intimate surrounding of independent shops. Dvorak is right, if Apple exclusively sells such a tv only in their stores, shoppers will come around to see it. And then they might buy something else even if not the television.

I agree with Dvorak in a sense that Apple is behind the curve, but then again Apple has a history of surprising us and may just produce something the world has yet to see. I think if Apple was to enter the tv market they would begin to really set standards. When Apple released the ipod, they set a standard for music players even though the walkman had be released years in advance, it was such an innovative concept to no longer need cd’s or tapes, but be able to have thousands of songs in one hand. As Dvorak had also mentioned, their marketing would also boost sales because the market lacks immensely in that area. There are actually many impressive televisions on the market, such as the one released that doesn’t require a remote but you may operate it using hand gestures. Apple does have the Apple tv box which would also greatly benefit from releasing an actual television. I personally am looking forward to the release of a television, however I am skeptically as to how the public’s opinion for Apple may change. Apple may begin to look like too much of a monopoly in the electronic department.

You are describing the vaulted spot that Sony once held. Sony gained fame with its trinitron tv which used a separate gun for each primary color. Then they got into stereo, same thing. Then they invented the walkman and then they just lost their way, bingo Apple picked up the mantle of leadership. Before Sony it was RCA, Radio Corporation of America in the 1920s, today they are zilch.
